Video 8/30

With my recent news of spending this summer coaching at high cascade I thought this video would be fun to post...I spent a day coaching Tommy and this is what we came up with!

Mid April back country missions

After a nice Break from the snowboard world this past weekend working the Redbull 1976 games at Copper, I got back at it full time... With a snowboard Colorado magazine shoot at Breck, then 2 days in the back country with nowsnowboarding.com I'd say it was a successful week.

The snowboard Colorado magazine shoot at Breck was pretty funny...unfortunately I was unable to partake in the early morning potion while it wad sunny. But seriously as I arrived the clouds and snow rolled in. No mind to the weather we decided to shoot anyways. We sent it till around 4:45 milking just about everything out of the features and weather that we could...

Now onto the exciting back country chapter of this blog. As the forecast read cloudy and snowy for Wednesday we figured it was going to be a bust, but with the reassuring confidence from Brent Meyer we decided to send it anyways out to vail pass. We had two jumps in mind, but with the first requiring more work than guessed we ended up just hitting that one till around 6pm. All in all it was a successful mission, we all got atlases one shot and definitely a few epic photos!

With a solid, tiring day in the back country on Wednesday I figured I'd just keep it mellow yesterday and go shred Breck with some friends. But that was definitely not the case! With chris garrison in town I figured I needed to get out there and get some more shots, so once again we loaded the sled and prepared for another mission. This one was only a few miles away so I was lied to ad told we would still be able to get some
Afternoon shred in at Breck... Not. We got the first jump set up Nd ready pretty quick but were all pretty close to tricks we wanted so ended up hitting it for a bit longer than planned. After we got done with the first jump were planning on hitting the second one which was similar just had some trees in the middle. For some reason one of the crew wasn't feint it. So he headed over to go build a new jump at 2pm... Unfortunately this new jump was no good for photos so we went back to the original second jump which had now lost the epic lighting it once had. Either way Ian and I headed up to send it anyways. Ian hit it about 3 times and I hit it twice, we got our shots and called it a wrap.

All in all it definitely can pay off to get out there and make something happen... Either way snowboarding is so much fun and can always be what you make it to be!

Never say never

So after a fun night with some of the Redbull peeps... We hung out with some of the early 76'ers, Tyler Anderson sent it like normal possibly not sleeping at all. And I think my king size bed was just a bit to big and definitely had insomnia... So after a night of not much sleep we headed over to jacks for a breakfast and to get the game plan for the day. Now for a bit of Redbull infrastructure placement, than hopefully some turns on a new sims test board...

Tonight the Redbull 1976 games began with a party and a fashion show!

RedBull 1976 games at copper with the crew!

Getting RADD with Matt Koenig Tyler Anderson, Eric Bojan, and the rest of the crew...
We showed up in copper ready to work, but turned out we couldn't set much stuff up. After a funny drive up in the worst penske ever, Bobby not waving to Matt, and the truck not fitting in the parking garage we were there. We checked into our sick ass condos, got some beers and did a little walk through of the site. Its pretty obvious that this weekend is going to be crazy! I mean... we are currently in the process of testing the crunchyness of celery; we dropped some squishy celery into water to see if it would become more crunchy...NOPE...Bobby fail #1

Now on to the night for a little team dinner then to get
Rad!

30 videos in 30 days...

If your not aware by now, a big craze these days is 30 photos in 30 days. With that said, and with the snow season beginning to come to an end I thought to myself what better way to finish out the season than with 30 videos for 30 days... So keep an eye out today for my first video of the series... I'll give you a hint; it's tax day so the plan is to cheer you up and put a smile on your face.

The Final day of the Washington trip... Baker kicker

Washington final part
So after a much needed day of rest up in Bellingham, Nick myself and Andy decided to head up to mt. Baker and go build a booter. The sun was shinning, spirits were good and we were all ready to send it!
After a quick stop at the legendary maple falls, where we all got a breakfast sandwhich, some snacks and a turkey cran sandwich for lunch we were back on the road to the mountain. With an un expected call from pat McCarthy informing us he was already up at the mountain and beginning to build a jump, I knew I was in store for a good day.
As we arrived at the upper parking lot and got all our gear on, I began to wonder to myself what we were going to build. I knew it was going to be something good, but at the same time hoping that I would be able to land some tricks and get a few more shots. With all our gear on and packs ready we began the mellow hike out to grandma's zone. A spot on the backside of the mountain with a ton of jump spots and an old cabin that they call grandma's cabin. We got out there and could see a crew of people in the distance which we all knew was pat and the 686 crew. I could tell we wouldn't be hitting a jump with them but thought we'd say hi anyways. It was funny being so far from home then seeing familiar faces from Breckenridge, such as Madison Elsworth and Brett Esser. It was a nice feeling and calmed the nerves a bit. Pat had a pretty large crew with him so we let them be and moved onto our own spot near by which Nick picked out.
The jump spot was pretty sweet, with plenty of landing to the left, right and straight in front we knew we were going to do work today. The three of us cranked out a pretty massive jump quicker then I would have ever imagined, and I skeptically started making a boot path up to slip the in run. I knew as I grew closer and closer to the top that this was an important task. The jump required a lot of speed, and a proper in run is crucial for that. With Nick putting that task on me I felt a good sense of worth as well as a bit of anxiety. After making sure all was good I slipped the path and did a bit of
bump removal to make sure we were set to send it. As all finishing touches were completed and the camera was set up the whole 686 crew showed up to watch, now Nick gave me the next big task hitting the jump first. This is a big honor as well as a nerve racking experience. You have to assume your speed is good, and do a big trick because you have a perfect landing.
As I dropped in whole crowed watching, camera rolling I knew this was a big moment for me. I pointed the run in, hit the lip and launched into a super slow double wildcat (backflip). As the first one came around and I started dipping into the second all felt well. I knew i was taking the jump to the bottom but my rotation and pop felt perfect. I spotted my landing put down the landing gear and got ready for the impact. I hit the ground about 70ft from the jump and felt my legs give out, I had done the trick perfect landed on my feet, but was just unable to withstand the impact. As everybody told me how deep I sent it I hustled up to the top to try it again. I was so close yet so far, I just had to go a bit slower and popped a bit harder, simple task I figured. I dropped in putting in a few speed checks here and there and popped hard as I took off the lip, too hard I realized instantly. The first one came around so fast I knew this was going to be bad, so I opened up and layed out the second one to slow my rotation, which helped just not enough. I over rotated my second one and figured I should let nick and Andy send it.
After a few hours of launching off the jump, Nick, Andy and myself all landing decent tricks I realized it had been a successful and another productive day shooting with wild card movies. We had all landed tricks but were far from over as Forrest Burke graced us with his presence and asked if he could send it a few times. We had all already landed tricks so there was no reason not to let another member of the crew get in on the action. And with that just as we did he put down some solid tricks as well. Nothing to complain about with another fun first for me. Building a jump on the back side of
Baker and landing some tricks. Nor was it a bad way to spend Nicks birthday, now to rush back and get ready to go out for the party. Than head to Seattle and fly back home to colorado to prepare for the next adventure.

Back to the end of the Washington trip, part 3

Washington part 3!
You'd never expect to be excited after 4 hours of sleep and a long day in the backcountry, but as the alarm rang 5:40am...I picked myself off the floor and got ready for the next adventure. We hustled to load the truck and get all our slightly damp clothes on. 6:30am we were officially on the road and as the sun began to rise, we new it was going to be a good day. After a quick stop at shafers to grab Tim Carlson and Kurt Jensen...we headed to the spot, just a  bit east of Stevens pass and unloaded the sleds to get ready for what I would soon find to be one of the longest days snowmobiling ever.
After our mellow 10 mile sled ride in through some hectic trails we arrived in a meadow with perfect north facing shelves all around. The next step was to agree upon a place to set up camp and where to start the riding. With yesterday being a day of mini golf little lines, we knew we wanted to build something and try to catch some air. We found what looked like a decent spot to build a jump, and headed up to take a closer look. The original jump spot didn't work out, but as we were looking around we found a nice spot for a step down jump.
After around an hour of building Nick, Kurt, Forrest and I put the finishing touches on the jump and got the cameras in place. Nick hit the jump first and put down a perfect frontside 3 first try, we all sent the jump a few times, and each put down at least one stomped trick, including myself getting a decent front side 360 as some cool snow glistened in the sun.
As we were finishing hitting the jump the rest of the crew rolled around and found some other spots, with  Kurt hitting a pretty sweet gap to pillow and Forrest heading up the hill to hit a good sized cliff. Now not sure if you know this or not but with most things along with accessibility comes some issues, especially in the case of snowmobiles. See as awesome as snowmobiles are, there are also a lot of work and tend to get stuff pretty easy. You pretty much have to figure you will get stuck atleast a few times every day you break trails. And with that said Andy Stern went on a little snowmobile mission as the crew built the jump. What we didn't realize is that he got stuck, and was trying to dig out his sled for most of the time we were building the jump. So unfortunately for Andy with the combo of being a bit under the weather and working to get his sled out for awhile he wasn't to in for sending a jump. With that said Andy did manage to muster the energy to send a little spine and atleast stomp something for the day.
As the hours and light went down, Andy and I sat at the base camp trying to figure out what was going on. We had sat there for about a half an hour with no word from the rest of crew, we had made a fire, chatted for awhile and were starting to get nervous as to what happened with the crew...
As the light was beginning to set Andy decided against his better judgement to go sled up to where he thought the rest of the crew was, a few minutes he returned, with the pack not to far behind. We came to find out that forest's sled had broken down and we now had to tow it back out. Mind you that it was a legit 10miles plus ride in, with plenty of sketchy spots, this was going to be no easy task. After what felt like eternity we arrive back at the trucks at 10pm to finish up our mellow 14 hour day in the back county. Now to drive back to Bellingham and get ready for the next adventure

Arrived in Canada

So a full day of traveling I made it savely to Montreal Canada.
Eric Beauchemin picked me up from my house in Breck in his 2 wheel drive cougar and we began the adventure. barely remembering my passport and trunk barely closing and we were on the way. Eric's flight was in exactly three hours so lets just say we didnt waste anytime. Eric bailed out the car just in time to catch his flight and I went to park the car, as I arrived at my gate I noticed my 1:50 flight had now been delayed to 3:20 which meant my connection in newwark was going to be a tight one. I asked the lady at the front to take a look for me and see if I would be alright to make my connection. A few minutes went by, then she said I got you a ticket on a flight that's leaving now hurry up and get over there. So I ran to the near by gate and got on another flight to Newark, no time for even a bathroom break and I was on my way. As I arrived in Newark I began my mission for some dinner, after a nice 8 dollar sandwich I arrived at my gate. As time grew near I noticed the flight at the gate I was told is still not my flight. I asked the staff member and was told there had been a gate change, so now as I made my way to the other side of the airport my flight got delayed an hour in a half. No more rushing, just more time hanging out in Newark. A hop and a skip later I arrived in Montreal Canada for the first time. A confused wonder through the airport, and a random phone call and I was picked up by an airport shuttle, and shuttled to the Hilton inn for the night before heading to Quebec the next day.
